Chin culture is deeply rooted in traditional textiles, patterns, colors, craftsmanship, and stories passed down through generations. These traditions reflect the identity, history, and creativity of the Chin people. We believe our heritage should not only be remembered, but kept alive for future generations. For nearly three decades, Sein Shwe Yamin has been dedicated to preserving and promoting Chin traditional craftsmanship. Now continuing into our second generation, we remain committed to carrying forward the values and traditions that shape our identity. We support local artisans and rural families by creating opportunities for them to continue their traditional skills and build sustainable livelihoods. By connecting Chin craftsmanship with wider markets, we hope to keep these traditions meaningful and relevant in the modern world.

Sein Shwe Yamin was established in 1998 by our mother Daw Thein Myint, therefore our journey began nearly three decades ago in Kalaymyo City, Sagaing Region-a vibrant trading hub at the crossroads of the Chin Hills and the India border.

In our first generation, we operated as a local trading store. Through cross-border barter trade with India, we began acquiring raw cotton yarn, a vital material for local Chin weavers. What began as trading raw yarn for handwoven textiles soon transformed our general store into a dedicated hub for traditional Chin textiles and yarns.

Today, as we enter our second generation, that initial spark has grown into a thriving ecosystem of sustainable craftsmanship. Through our direct yarn-to-textile model—supplying raw materials and retrieving finished crafts—we work closely with a network of 150–200 skilled local artisans.

Over the past 27 years, this commitment has enabled us to preserve authentic Backstrap Loom and Hand Loom techniques while expanding from our original store in Kalaymyo to Yangon and Bago City.
